DOES NOT PAIR UP WITH THE PLUG AMAZON GROUPS WITH THIS PRODUCT
Bought this with the other two items Amazon in their infinite wisdom paired with this cb and of course, it does not work with the cigarette lighter plug that they will sell with it as an additional purchase. So that was a waste. Uniden needs to show the BACK OF THIS RADIO so people will get the correct information and items to accompany them instead of being frustrated that they believed Amazon, yet again!BUY LOCAL.

A great CB for someone who doesn’t really need a CB…
I’m a ham, so it’s not like I don’t already have an antenna or three already, but several times a year I do a 22-hour drive from the Dallas, TX area to the Baltimore, MD area – the airwaves start getting pretty quiet after dark, and by midnight or shortly thereafter they’re practically silent. I like a little noise in the car while I’m driving, but it seems I’m forever searching for a radio station on the AM/FM that’s not too objectionable, and I’ve found that conversations on the CB on my touring motorcycle are quite entertaining at times. The Uniden receives very well connected to a slightly retuned 10-meter ham antenna, there are only three controls to worry about (on/off-volume, squelch, and channel 9 button), so I can set the volume and squelch, select channel 19 but leave the channel 9 button in until the silence is intolerable, then pop the channel 9 button out to listen to channel 19. I haven’t actually talked on it yet, but I tuned it for minimum SWR at channel 9, so it should work reasonably well across the band. The volume from the built-in speaker is more than adequate in the SUV, and the radio itself takes up so little space and weighs so little that I have many mounting options; at the moment it’s on the back of the center console, but should I determine that it might be useful for more than listening, there’s space under the dashboard and on the front of the console as well. It’s just a really nice little CB for someone who has only occasional need for one.

Item comes in hardwire option ONLY. Does not come with a cigarette lighter adapter
In the Q and A section it says it comes with a power supply. It does, only a pigtail for hardwire only. In the “add ons” it says the adapter is a “replacement”. So now I had to buy one, and arrive later. I know “First World Problems” this is a “PSA”.

This is an EXCELLENT radio.
I was looking for an inexpensive Compact CB that i could throw in my car when i was taking long trips on vacations etc. I am extremely pleased with its performance and the overall quality. For the cost of a bag of groceries i own a really nice compact CB tha i can transmit and receive with for miles. A very solid and dependable radio. Is it the best? I don’t know, but it is really hard to beat at this price. I trust it and would buy another if it came to it, but i don’t think it will anytime soon. ✌🏼

Excellent Starter-to-Intermediate CB Radio
I bought the Pro505XL in December 2016. It’s a nice, compact unit with some decent features. It does NOT have a built-in SWR meter. Saw a couple of reviews where people said that, but it isn’t true. It has a signal-strength meter, those bars on the left side of the display, but that’s not a SWR meter. Some advice on this radio. First, get a real good antenna for it. I mean a LONG one, high quality. Second, get an external speaker for it and hook that up, rather than using the built-in speaker. Sound will be much better. And yeah…the good old bullhorn speaker under the hood of your vehicle up near the front grille of your vehicle is always fun. I like the silent controls on this one, too. No click-click-click stuff when changing channels. Since the radio is rated at the legal 4 watt limit, your antenna is EVERYTHING. Go for big, go bold, or don’t go at all. If you decide later to upgrade to a CB with more functions or something, you won’t be sorry. Besides, who wants a cheap antenna that doesn’t get out very far, anyway?I mounted this one on the top of the dash in my (restored) 1987 Nissan Hardbody truck. I attached the mounting bracket and then used velcro strips on the bracket, and on the dashboard. Makes it easy to disconnect and store if you want to. Stick it IN the truck, rip it out if you wish. Doing this also keeps the bottom-mounted speaker UP off the dash, so you can hear it. But like I said, an external speaker really is better. And no matter what you do…make sure you take the time and patience to get that antenna matched properly. You want an average of 1.2 or less on your SWR meter on all channels. (That will give you 95% of your potential output. 1.0 is the ideal, and gives you 100%) There are many good videos on YouTube on how to match a CB antenna. A single millimeter difference in the proper length can be the difference between getting out long range, or only a couple of miles. And if your SWR reading goes much above 2.0, not only will your signal not reach far, but you can easily fry your radio.

A Good Starter CB Radio!
Since owning this CB, I’ve transferred it to two different vehicles and loved having it in both! It doesn’t have a ton of features but with a decent antenna and a little knowledge you can make this a nice unit to transmit and receive CB with! I love the PA function that it has too as you can buy a cheap $10-$15 PA horn and now you have a budget friendly PA system too! It has a nice bright display so you can see what channel you’re on as well as a pseudo frequency meter! I love that you can easily switch from CB to PA and changing volume and squelch is easy with the two side knobs. I also like that there’s a Channel 9 button you can use for the “emergency” channel and the up and down buttons make it easy to change channels on the fly! Surely a nice unit for the money!

Best CB radio You Can Buy
Simply put, for the size, this is the best CB Radio your money can buy. It is very well built, the device is encased in a very thick, and durable hard plastic shell and feels very very sturdy, the mic is very ergonomical, fits in the hand really nicely, doesn’t look like some funky toy that half the other mics out there look like, and is also made of a very thick and quality plastic. This device is a little softer on output power though, so make sure you buy a good antenna. The dead key is only ~2.5 watts and the swing barely reaches over ~8 watts, but for the size, I understand why they may have had to lower these. The device will get a tad bit warm on the left side if you do a lot of transmitting (SWR of 1.3) and I would make sure you keep a good eye on your SWR for this reason, as I’m sure a higher SWR would burn this unit up as it does not have a SWR danger indicator, and seeing as how it gets a little warm even using a good antenna properly tuned. But I have heard of some users running these on SWR of 2.0 and higher and having no issues at all. Very well made internal components as well. All in all, I’ve been able to talk to some guys 10 miles away from me, and they report very good audio quality and decent signal strength. Perfect size and fits just about anywhere, very durable, easy to use. I couldn’t imagine a better CB radio for the money. I’d get one while they’re still dirt cheap. Best radio I ever bought for the price.OUTPUT POWER:Dead key: ~2.5 watts MAXSwing: ~8 watts MAXRECEIVE SENSITIVITY:0.8microVolts per 10dB audio sound increase (most radios are between 0.5-1.0 microVolts)AUDIO DISTORTION:~10% MAXMODIFICATIONS:None, there are NO adjustable pots inside, if you do adjust something, you WILL fry this unit. DO NOT tamper with the internals of this excellent product just to get more watts. It will NEVER be worth it. This unit does NOT have the same circuit board as the 510XL which does have adjustable pots.

Best CB radio for the money!
Love this CB radio! It’s easy to install, has a PA feature if you have an external speaker running to it, has great reception (and I’m just piggy-backing off of the factory radio antenna), looks great, and isn’t massively sized which is great if you’re running low on extra space. Definitely recommend this radio to anyone who is always on the road or happens to be off-road from time to time.

Two Year Review
I ordered this CB radio two years ago in June to prepare for a trip I was taking to Minnesota and since then I have used it way more than I thought. I mounted it by screwing it into my center console which has held up great since, even with my leg hitting it or the seat as I adjust it. I used a magnetic CB antenna so that probably limited my range but I was able to clearly hear and talk to other vehicles up to a few miles out, and this is with a pretty rookie setup. On my way back from the initial trip I even ended up in a conversation with one of those people who overpower channels. After the trip I saw a PA speaker for $5 and had to purchase it. It connected to the CB with an aux cord and by turning the gain all the way down/changing it to PA I was able to speak through it. This has served me well when drivers decide to play on their phone, drive stupid, or just to scare my friends! The microphone has held up great from me throwing it down after yelling at stupid drivers. This is my go to CB radio and I hope it will last me another two years!

Long term (5.5 year) update PRO505XL
Great CB on the cheap. I’d give it 4.5 stars if I could; it’s not a full blown ‘knock my socks off’ 5 stars, but for what it costs it has performed fantastically. I didn’t bother with a review before since there’s well over 1000, but since I managed to finally break it, now is a good time to do a long term review. Purchase date was April 2013 so it’s a little over 4.5 years old. (Edit 2018…it’s now 5.5 years old and still works…except for the speaker) It’s in my Jeep so no roof or doors most of the time. Tons of dust and occasional mud, water, etc. It’s mounted with the speaker facing inward to avoid the occasional splash or direct rain before I can get the roof up, but that’s about the only real preventive measure. Dang thing still works after 5.5 years, but the speaker died over a year ago. Got an external speaker. REALLY should have done that sooner. SO much better than the little one in the c.b. (when it worked). Great for a noisy Jeep. And as far as transmissions go, I’m told my setup is one of the clearer ones to hear. Anyway, for around 30 bucks and 5.5 years of abuse, I can’t complain, and the little dude still operates…mostly. One other thing to consider: It’s brother the 510 got the ANL option and this one has the PA option. Their more expensive sibling, the 520, got both. The clarity is pretty dang good so I’m not sure how much ANL would improve my noisy Jeep experience.Wish list: It would be nice if Uniden made a small format CB with NOAA weather, just a thought.

Works
Works gor what it is, a no frills, inexpensive cb unit. I bought this one as a temporary unit fir my semi while i do some rewiring and new antenna install just so i can get traffic update in a backup. You know, its a “backup ” radio, traffic gets backed up you can hear the info from other drivers. Its not a high power “gets out” radio but picks up decent. This would be a great inexpensive radio for the average 4 wheeler traveler though.

Good for the price.
I got this radio to add to my go box after weighing the price of this with the features of the PRO520XL. I’ve had access to both radios now for a little bit, and unfortunately regret not going for the PRO520XL.Aside from the style, the 520 is actually smaller than this lower-end model. This model forgoes an RF gain knob, which is essential for tuning down to the noise floor for distant stations. The issue is particularly compounded by poor mounting techniques such as clip or mag-mount antennas. Reading the specs for each radio before deciding revealed that the 520’s receiver sensitivity was brilliant compared to this one, so in most cases distant stations hear me long after I stop hearing them.Another stark comparison of this radio with it’s bigger brother is the weight. The 520’s chassis is solidly constructed steel from top to bottom, where the 505 opts for cheaper plastic. After noticing an incredible drop in the noise floor when placing my magmount on top of the radio, I further realised another big “nono” in the radio’s design; cracking it open revealed that there was no shielding whatsoever apart from the side mounting rails. I haven’t tested for leaked RF yet, but I’ve already begun adding adhesive tin foil in an effort to provide some shielding and quell the noise this thing absorbs. It’s a fairly simple process, but be sure to use a sheet of acetate (transparency film works) between the circuit board and the conductive metal to prevent shorts. If installing any CB radio permanently, I recommend wiring the radio directly to the battery or jump points. Be sure to install an inline fuse *at the battery*, or an electrical fire is a real danger. Since this radio has an inline 2A fuse, a 2A fuse at the battery would be ideal, but 2A blades aren’t common. 5A is more common and will work fine for this wiring gage. Remember, the fuse at the radio will NOT protect you from a fire if the short is between the battery and the fuse. Using it this way instead of an accessory port adapter takes care of most alternator noise and interference issues.

BASIC, BASIC, BASIC, and yet, still fun !
Folks, this is a $40 CB radio, it’s not the latest Cell Phone.Works, and saved me twice in the past two months when a trucker on channel 19 yelled, “SMOKY UNDER BRIDGE” and when Google navigation did not register yet, and I get the word there was an accident ahead.CB Radio is NOT about the head unit, it’s about the antenna, it’s all about the antenna, if you get a cheap antenna, your CB will act, look and be a cheap head unit. Invest in a decent antenna and use this head unit and you’ll be happy.Fun to hear the truckers talk at times.

The best small mobile CB available at this price point.
I’ve been in CB radio for nearly twenty years, and a ham operator for fifteen years. In my time I’ve owned many CB’s ranging from $10 yard sale cheapies, to $600 base stations. I’ve also done my fair share of modifying, repair, peak & tune work to various CB’s. In my honest opinion, this is what I feel, “The best” small CB for under $50.If you have the need for a small CB for casual communication, you won’t go wrong here. Out of the box, stock, this little radio will transmit about a 3.5W carrier (FCC limit is 4W) and will modulate (audio forward swing) about 10W. Please note that FCC regulation is a maximum of 4 watts CARRIER, and not 4 watts peak power. There’s a difference, and out of the box, this radio is completely 100% within FCC spec. With that being said, in the hands of a competent technician, by adusting the AMC modulation, you’ll see about 20 watts PEP with a nice little boost in audio loudness. DO NOT try this yourself – you can royally destroy your radio if you try it yourself. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with how it operates out of the box!Moving on. This radio comes with everything in the box you need to install it. A mounting bracket, microphone clip, screws and hardware, and the power cord. Installation is easy and because the unit doesn’t take up a lot of room, can be installed about anywhere – even hidden in your glovebox. I just leave mine laying in the back seat, not mounted to anything. You can’t go wrong with this CB radio!

Nice but not enough reach
UNIDEN PRO505XL BEARCAT CB RADIOPROS:1) Both the volume and squelch knobs work.2) The mic is a standard mic connection. When will they go wireless on mics?3) The signal and sound are loud and clear up to 2.5 miles with an non-tuned antenna.CONS:1) The size is a bit larger (deeper) than what my available space will allow.2) The power leads are terminated with bare wire instead of a plug to allow easy power connection to the cigarette lighter power port with a similarly modified cigarette power plug adapter. Some additional hardware and modification is needed to prepare the power leads to get this radio up and running if you only want to power through the cigarette lighter port.3) The instructions indicate that a schedule must be established to measure and adjust the SWR antenna value and this seems overly complicated. I never had to gauge and adjust SWR on my cb radios decades ago and my radios were not harmed by not adjusting the SWR. 4) The reach of this radio was tested by me to be less than 3 miles in a flat stretch of highway. I drove to a truck stop and made contact with a truck driver who agreed to communicate with me as I drove away on a flat road to see how far the radio would reach. At 2 miles the signal was loud and clear. As I approached 3 miles static began to rise and at 3 miles the signal was lost. Again, this was using a non-tuned cobra antenna.SUGGESTIONS TO UNIDEN1) Power lead: Replace the built in/hardwired power lead coming out of the back with a power port. Offer two power up options. Option 1 would bundle a power adapter that can be simply plugged into the back of the radio and then plugged into the cigarette lighter port. Option 2 would bundle a power lead that can be simply plugged into the back of the radio and then strung to the fuse box and/or battery. Buyer’s choice. I would say that most people wanting a radio of this grade will want to plug into the cigarette lighter. Make it simple and quick to get this radio up and running. Replacing the hardwired lead out of the back with a plug will also make stowing the radio much more convenient.2) Clarify the need to constantly be testing the SWR. Is this going to harm the radio if it isn’t done? What type of harm will it do? As an option, offer the radio with an magnetic base-loaded antenna that can be easily adjusted to meet the SWR 1:1 requirement.

Good unit, could use a power connector
When I purchased this CB radio Amazon recommended a power cord and antenna. The power cord did have a connector, but the CB radio only had tinned wires. To connect the two parts I had to cut the plug off the power cord and crimp the wires to the CB radio leads. Not a problem if you have the connectors but the description should explicitly say it does not have a connector that plugs directly into the recommended power cord. Aside from that it is a great little unit.

Good radio for the money
Everything works, it’s very basic only problem is nobody is on CB except some super high powered truckers across the country. CB is a great way you can get many fars being as it is a very short wave length frequency(s). However there’s nobody on CB anymore, just get a gmrs radio and find some repeaters.

This radio has great audio and is easy to turn up!
Great CB for the car or as a base. To turn the power up to the max, use a phillips screwdriver to get the cover off. Careful with the speaker wire. Then, on the circuit board you’ll see the power adjustment pot. Turn it with a small flat head. I turned mine up from about 3.5 watts to around 5 watts. Or turn it down as needed if you’re driving an amp. Anyhow I may buy another one as a spare…nice radio & microphone.

Nice Little CB!
I drive a weekly commute of around 180 miles each way, often at early morning hours, and have often thought about installing a CB to hear the trucking traffic all around me, but never had a real reason to until recently when I was going to be embarking on a fishing trip off in the woods with others who had CBs installed. So I bit the bullet and got this little unit. Installation was simple, though it could have used more wire (I lucked out; the previous owner had had an amp in the back of the Jeep and left the wiring, so I just used that). Everyone that has seen it has commented on how good it looks in the truck, and how it looks like standard equipment.Coupled with a cheap
Roadpro 36inch Magnet Mount CB Antenna Kit With Spring 17feet Coax Cable Base Loaded RP-707
, I’ve been getting great reception while on the road, and every radio check I’ve done it has been commented how I’m “coming in real good”. During my recent fishing trip, my buddy, using a circa-1979 emergency portable CB, could hear me almost three miles away, through woods and mountains. They say that if you have $100 to spend on a CB, spend $20 of it on the CB and $80 on the antenna. If that’s the case, you can’t go wrong with this little radio.AJH

Good price point and does the job.
I got this radio for my wife’s Toyota Tundra, it seems the newer the vehicle, the less room. Downfall with this radio is a push button channel selector, no knob. The volume and squelch knobs are tiny. Also, if you do not get the screen tilted just right, it is difficult to see at night. The mic is very heavy, compared to the President CB mic, but it works well. I gave this a rating of a 4, because of the cost and size. This radio is perfect for the wife’s vehicle you do not drive often and will not be in her way.

Good recieve and transmission. Range is about 2-3 miles on open highway. I’m happy. I just use it to monitor road alerts on channel 19. Serves my purpose. Great little radio. Bare bones, and bare foot. 👍

Works great!
I am a newly employed dump truck driver that needed to replace my CB radio in my truck. Normally this would feel a little daunting due to the price of most streamlined radios but for as much as I need to use a CB this was the perfect solution! Great range, clear sound, has never let me down.

Easy to operate and tune in the signal just right
This is my second one I’ve had. First one I primarily used the PA function but this new one is now in my new Jeep Wrangler and have already used it on the highway and a few trails with some other guys and I have had zero issues with the quality. The sound is easy to hear and great quality for this smaller sized CB. As most know the real quality comes from the antenna and tuning it but beyond that the squelch knob works wonders when theres some interference from weaker signals and helps clear everything up. For the price you get alot of function that most pricier CB’s dont even offer I don’t think ill ever use another CB. The PA functions works wonders too I have no complaints with that. It is so easy to just plug a speaker into it and go wether it be built into your rig or a portable one you want to just plug in for a short need. Please hit the helpful button if this helped you out it would mean a lot.

2 watt output with excellent SWR.
This radio is okay, and I have had conversations with other truck drivers via the radio, but they were always so close to me that I could see them. Even on the highway. With an SWR of 1.0 to 1.1 on channels 1 through 40, the radio reads 2 Watts on my SWR meter. Half the power it is supposed to read, and I cannot find any instructions online on how to increase the output power. I am disappointed by this. Also, the display screen is set up so that it is almost impossible to see the screen from below. With the radio mounted above the windshield in the truck that I drive, you can’t see what the screen says, you can only see a yellow light up Square. The speaker is extremely small, but is actually loud and clear, that was a nice surprise. The microphone Jack is in the wrong place, it should be on the side of the radio, especially a radio this small. A radio like a Cobra 29, I understand why they put the mic Jack on the front, even though they shouldn’t. But this radio having the mic Jack on the front just makes it be in the way. Also, the mic Jack should be on the upper right, not the lower left, and that is true for all CB radios.

Small compact
I like this CB radio. It’s very small and compact. It’s very easy to use.
