Great Value without breaking the bank
After reading reviews and looking for product ratings online I ordered the radar detector. I have not experienced what other users stated in their reviews with false alarms or constant alerting. I drive by banks, commercial buildings etc. with security systems. I am not being overwhelmed with alerts. I am happy with the value for what I paid and the performance this far. I could have spent way more, but why? I am not trying to run from the police or evade, I just want to be alerted to not get a ticket.

Very sensitive.
Will continue to run and drain your car battery over extended periods make sure to turn off after EVERY use.Very sensitive and will give off alerts to random things like stop lights and the fronts of grocery stores for some reason.Very loud if you don’t set it right every time. Almost ended up in a few crashes because random things would make it blare in my car Very loudly. Will not alert to xray or Lazer from the rear unless it has direct sight of the back window and tints will give you more laser false positives for some reason.Definitely takes some getting used to and fine tuning but over all has saved me a fee times.

First day of use, saved me a speeding ticket on the Ohio turnpike.
I have had Cobra radar detectors for most of my 50 years of driving. No tickets in the last 40 years. I decided to upgrade my fairly old detector(20+ yrs) with this model. I was skeptical and was prepared to return it if I wasn’t satisfied with the performance. The day it came I took it on a 3-hour trip via the Ohio turnpike and inner-city driving. I was amazed at the 1-2 times getting a false signal compared to my old model even in dense city driving. Returning home that night it was dark and rainy which made it difficult to see. To my surprise, it went off showing “Laser”. I couldn’t see the Ohio State PD at first but eventually picked up his parking lights in the median between the concrete lane barrier. I was traveling 90+mph in a 70 zone and had time to slow down. No ticket. That’s good enough for me. This is a keeper. I have no idea why more people don’t own radar detectors. For what they cost, they would pay for themselves in one ticket. You do have to learn how to use them and understand their limitations, unlike my brother-in-law that thought he could always do 100+mph and never get caught. If you like getting those speeding tickets, then don’t buy one. I prefer to skip the ticket costs and increased insurance premiums for a few bucks of a detector. This one is great!

Good radar detector
I like to drive fast, and radar detectors will not guarantee you won’t get a ticket, but if you know how to read the road, they will help. This unit works great, just like the kind that I had from Cobra way back in the day. I used to own an RD 4100 and the RD 3100, both were excellent, that was 40 years ago. This one seems to work just as good as those.

Great Motorcycle Radar Detector
The media could not be loaded.
I have never had a radar detector before but felt like I needed to get one. I was not sure how to use one or even where to get started. I have a KTM 1290 Super Adventure S and it is a very powerful motorcycle. Because of that power on acceleration I might overshoot the posted speed occasionally. As far as ease of use you literally just plug it in and it starts working. No need to even read the manual. When it beeps and the detection gauge goes up assure you are adhering to the posted speed. I know at least one instance it has already saved me. I have been using the Ram Mount System on all my motorcycles. I got a magnet mount for this radar detector and it is really easy to mount and then remove when I am away from the motorcycle. There is a cord that plugs right into the cigarette lighter outlet on my motorcycle. I really cannot believe how much warning this gives me. Literally miles ahead. Plenty of time to be aware and adjust your speed accordingly. The visual black and white screen on the back of the detector is easy to see even in direct sunlight. With no experience with a radar detector I was thinking this might be a bust but boy was I wrong. I am able to hear the beeping from the radar detector even with my helmet on playing music. There is a volume knob on the side with you can easily adjust. I am not sure I would change anything with this radar detector except I should have bought it sooner.

Some misses on this radar
This radar looked great and looks very quality. But it seems to gives lots of false alarms and some misses. Could be the cops are using new technology I don’t know. Now it’s in a box not being used. Waze app is better for alerts and more accurate.

Great quality radar detector
This is a very sturdy, quality made radar detector. It works well and I like the range of volume for the alerts. I think this is the best detector on the market for the price! Everything comparable is over $500. Great buy!

USB Plug in for Updates Only
After around 4 months use, it saved me many times. After having a bad water leak into my car, it quite working a couple weeks later. After trying to plug it in using usb it only said download mode. After taking 2 hours learning how to update it and finally updating it. It still did not cut on. Turns out my cigarette lighter plug in was dammed by the water leak. After replacing it, the Rad 480i came back to life. There is no monthly subscription or app or update required to have a working radar detector. Also, the usb plug in is only intended for updating the Rad 480i. Only complaints are the unclear instructions on updating and poorly communication fact that the usb plug in is only for updating.

Device works as intended. App, not so much
The radar scanner works great for my purposes. I’ve tested it around town over the past week, and it has successfully picked up a radar signal from an offending speed camera on my route home, as well as a few police cars that had their radar emitters active. I mostly disregard the weaker signals it picks up, as it seems like it detects traffic monitoring systems and possibly the occasional IVT. The sensitivity can be adjusted down if this poses an issue. Based on my results with the speed camera, it’s only going to detect an active radar signal, so it would seem the cameras posted around the city only operate at peak hours, or use an optical feedback method to emit radar signals when someone speeds past it. Either way, it’s not a fault of the device. As for the app, it works fine when it wants to, but requires frequent force-quits and reboots after running it for the first time. I run it on a phone with 12GB RAM, so I’m really not sure what could be to blame besides a major memory leak. It’s become a massive inconvenience, and ultimately defeats the purpose of the device that is meant to be up and running within seconds. If this app can be updated to run properly and remain stable on multiple Bluetooth pairings, this would be a 5 star review.

Works fine but I think radar detectors are worthless…..
Let me first say I think a radar detector is completely worthless because you can come around a corner and have someone waiting around the corner and turn on their radar as soon as you come around the corner and by time your radar detector goes off they already have your speed. So I only drive at a creative speed if there is someone else in front of me me driving at a creative speed. Then I rely on them being detected and I have time to adjust my speed when the radar detector goes off. One time I did 85 MPH for about 30 miles with someone else 200 yards in front of me; until that person exited the interstate. Before this I had a Whistler and was going to get another one of those because it’s the devil I know but this Cobra is much better because I can read the display in full sunlight and I could not read the Whistler display in full sunlight, and I even made a shade for it and I still had a hard time reading it. And I’ve had 2 Whistlers of the same model and both had the speaker only last 2 years. So I hope Cobra spend a little extra money on the speaker unlike that Whistler crap.I gave it 4 out of 5 because I didn’t really like the feature of connecting to my phone and found it to be worthless IMHO. I don’t have a mount for my phone and all the information is displayed on your phone when the phone and radar detector are paired. I think when the phone and radar detector are paired it should display info such as “traffic camera” on the display of the radar detector but it does not. The display on the radar detector goes blank when they are paired and all info is on your phone. Maybe there is a way to do it but I didn’t read the instructions but I think if can do it it should be the default.

Good Product. Ended up stolen so someone must’ve liked it
Worked pretty well. Not sure how many times it was set off from other things though because I did end up turning it down so I wouldn’t somewhat consistently hear noises but not see any cops at the medium sensitivity. Could be around the corner though who knows. Proceeded to get into a not at fault wreck and then it was stolen before I could retrieve my things

Okay for the money.
Purchased this after reviewing external websites, and this was deemed the best value radar detector. While this radar detector works, it doesn’t feel like it picks up threats as quickly as some of its high dollar counterparts do, however I was running this in a separate, lower riding vehicle versus it’s competitor.Easy to set up, mount and use. The additional wire harnesses provided to tie into rear view mirror electricity allows for a very clean install. Overall, a good product.

Lots of false KA alarms.
I find that some of the newer vehicles with blind spot sensors set the detector off. Range isn’t that great when there is actually a threat. The GPS only works when you’re using the app but I guess it’s okay for the money. Reminds me not to speed at least, just maybe too often.

Got it in September and it worked good, the app is pretty straight forward, I’ve had these a long time so I know when they should and shouldn’t be going off. Just last week this one randomly went quiet. The voice started cutting out when it would go off, and no there’s no sound at all….sure I could look at it while I’m driving but I’ve always just listened so I wouldn’t have to look….bummer. Probably got that 1 out of 1000 that cr*ps out early. Unless some sort exchange can be done, I’d stay away…

I got this for my husband to drive 2 hours to work each way 6 days a week. He works long hours and has to travel through many high speed high traffic areas. Using the app with this has helped a lot. The only problem so far was that the cord that came with it was not that great. It kept falling out. I ordered him a different one and he has had no problems sine.

I had my car stolen in November and my old Beltronics radar detector with it. I loved it because it came with a mute cord . Then I originally ordered a new cheap one $60 which I returned because I couldn’t hear it.I’m loving this oneDoes anyone know what cord I could order for replacement to a USB-C outlet? I already ordered the wrong size before. Right now it’s plugged into my cigarette lighter and it’s bending rather sharply and I know it’s gonna fray sooner than later. HELP ….please and thank you!

Its paid for itself.
Works very well, its most likely helped avoid traffic stops. It works as a great reminder to drive carefully. The sound can be annoying but over time you can condition yourself to know what the numbers are without really looking.Theres essentially 4 different readings you can get.1. Range of 10 Hz which is typically signs or radars from non police use.2. Range of ~24 Hz which is signs on the road that tell you your speed, other forms of radar (I have suspicions that police may use this frequency)3. Range of ~34-36 Hz which has always been cops in my experience.4. “Laser” will show up on the display which means a direct laser (typically from cops) is hitting near or on your vehicle. Its a great tool, dont use it to speed!

5 year review
I’ve owned it for 5 years and put it through 3 different vehicles and it’s been solid every single time. Once you learn that the different bands it shows ,then you can really understand when you have a cop or a radar trap upcoming. It will occasionally go off when you pass by an automatic door opener for example in front of a Walmart or something but you can always tell when it’s a false flag or real alert. 5 years later and I have no tickets or even been pulled over. I’ve noticed it begin to flash “ka” bands as early as 1.5-2 miles before I have my eyes on the cop. It works through heavy bushes and trees if you have a cop on the Side of the road covered by heavy vegetation it will still pick it up. It has the level system so you can see how direct the band is I think it’s like 5 boxes that will light up. It’s very accurate as you approach closer to the cop the boxes will fill till it’s in a full alert mode. For the price. I just purchased my second one for my other vehicle.

Incredible product and efficient
Other than adjusting sensitivity and preference in alerts this radar has exceeded my expectations, to say the least. It has saved me from multiple possible speeding tickets and has zero interference with police radars which I tested personally. I highly recommend anyone looking for a radar under $200 consider this product if they are looking for a highly reliable and customizable radar scanner. I will leave my details of operating the device below for anyone who might find it helpful. I recommend reading all details below if you are brand new or unfamiliar with using a radar scanner.Radar alerts (only ones that I recommend having enabled):Ka band, K band, low K band, LASER(all others can be disabled unless you know your local police use other radars such as SPECTRE or VG-2 (radar scanner detectors), X band(outdated),Sensitivity:I highly recommend using the Cobra App on your phone. I ALWAYS use “auto” sensitivity. What “auto” does is change the sensitivity from low, medium, or high depending on your speed. Low: 20MPH or lower. Medium: 20-60MPH. High: 60MPH+.If you are out in the middle of nowhere and just like knowing if there is any cop near, I recommend leaving it on high. Keep in mind, radar scanners ONLY detect active-seeking police radars. The scanner will not alert you simply of a police presence near by.Good all-round volume level:5-7 (volume scroll) If you have music on and/or big subs, definitely use max volumeCommunity Alerts/road construction/red-light cameras:Leave all enabled (very rarely pop up unless you live around a lot of red-light cameras, then it will most certainly annoy you)Other preferences that I find useful:Smart power: offVoltage display: onLow-voltage warning: on (12V or lower)Auto-mute: on (does not actually mute unless it’s K band, just lowers the volume to a tolerable level for Ka)Screensaver: on (more gentle in low-light conditions)Phone notifications: Off (radar alerts can be forwarded to your phone, or stay on the radar for audible alerts, it cannot be both)Mounting position:Just below the center rear-view mirror but not so that the rear LASER detector is blocked.Image: https://i.imgur.com/XsUByVh.jpeg (copy & paste link into browser).I personally had to sync my radar before making any adjustments to the device. After the phone is set up to connect whenever you turn the radar & app on, it will auto-sync (except for sensitivity preferences, you will have to switch to auto manually after turning it on). I have app GPS usage to “Only when app is open”.I hope other customers find this review helpful!Edit: Nothing is perfect. There are times when if there is nothing for the radar waves to bounce off of you might be in for a surprise full-alert warning. This radar can detect police radars sometimes miles ahead, and other times it won’t go off until you’re at the same stoplight as them. The way radar scanners work is very dependable on your surroundings and it is key that you not only know what is going on around you (for any reason you might need a police radar detector) to maximize the detector’s efficiency and your chance at being “caught”.

nice to know when your being monitored for speed or not
by the time this thing goes off they have already clocked your speed, it gives you a few seconds to slow down, but realistically they already got you pinged. hope that there is traffic and they cant tell who is who. need to connect to app for added features like speed limits and gps like wayze. not popular where im at so pretty useless for the spotting feature like cop parked here. the app also requires 24/7 location services on your phone and thats a little to invasive for a driving app. my car also has gps so dont really need a second one going off, or feel the need to use the app for gps.

5-Stars! But….
… these 5 stars are for the detector alone at under $150!DO NOT download and sign up for the app!1. It doesn’t work well. I had to turn off my smart watch as it got stuck in a loop with notifications.2. They’ll bombard your email with junk emails! The detector works great! I got it for a spare car and am comparing it to my 4 times more expensive Escort.Pros:Few falses and very modest alerts (voice) on K and X band. More assertive with alarm and voice on Ka and there was cops so it WORKS! Display is clear and bright enough in daylight. Functions are clear enough but you may wanna download a full manual.Cons:Mounting is okay. Feels secure but not Escort nice. Cord is just that, a cord. Long enough for any cigarette lighter plug-in but has no buttons. If you wanna mute an alert you need to reach the mute button on the detector. Closest to you but still far away, especially in a truck or SUV etc.But overall a 5 STAR $150 detector! Does all the Escort do for me (I just hang it and expect it to point out police radars in the vicinity. ) I actually like Cobra alerts better as they’re not in your face like Escort.I recommend this product but don’t download the app and expect to actually use the buttons on the detector (if you need to, I set mine up and now don’t touch it other than the occasional mute when a cop is close for a long time.)

It’s worth it buy it
If your heavy in the gas. Get this. Saves on the speeding fees after one warning. These are investments. Get what ever brand you want but cobra very good. And the app that comes with it is also great to utilize.

Mixed Feelings
UPDATE 11/21:
TO

Not even a few days later, I found out Cobra is phasing that app out. The new app is called Drive Smarter and it’s so much better!I’ve owned this radar for quite some time. Beautiful radar. Pleasant sounding. Great response time. However, there are some annoying downfalls.1) The app must be open to be connected. However, you could just leave the app open on your phone all the time, right? Nah. It’ll only connect about 25% of the time.2) You also have an annoying window pop-up upon loading the app that you have to exit out of every time regarding a subscription.3) App settings periodically revert to factory settings. No, battery hasn’t been disconnected or anything that would typically cause a device to do that.If Cobra updates the app, which is highly unlikely, I’d change the review to 5-stars.

great performance
it has a good range and reliable, I only use it for high risk areas, not in a slow-going traffic situations to reduce false alarms although I’ve seen cops parking near the speed-reading signs in construction zones to mix their radar signal with those coming from the sign. It certainly has paid for itself

Does not understand when Police Cars around
I used it for a week. I live in Illinois and I drive 60 miles approxilately every day to and from work on a very busy road (Rt 59 between Naperville IL and Schaumburg IL). There are multiple places where Police can be monitoring speed. As well as there are red light cameras and also couple of police stations in passing towns. Here are few of my experiences – (1) THis Radar detector, keep picking up K, Ka, X bands frequently and except for once I haven’t located a police car. (2) One day the signal was stuck with me and constantly showing moving along with car in Drive Smarter app. I initially thouoght there could some service car using using the same band since definitely there was no police car. However there is a stretch of 3-4 miles which have less or no traffic. And it was still stuck when noone around me :D. (3) Worst part – multiple occasions when there are Police cars around me during this period and this device was all quiet, showing no Alerts. That’s definitely when I decided to return.

Nice features but it picks up a lot of error warnings?
I got this radar because of the ratings and the value it gives you for such a great price. After using it for a month I notice that it picks up a lot of error warnings. Sometimes it picks ups motion detector from home alarms. It appears that it works best during long drive in the open freeway and I’m keeping this for that purpose however expect a lot of false warnings when you come into the city. I have Valentine’s and escorts radar detectors to compare it to so I know what I’m talking about. And the range seems very shorter compared to my other expensive radars. Makes sense because it is cheaper.

Almost never goes off unless there’s a cop
After trying out the Cobra 480i I decided to give this one a shot based on reviews. The 700i is so much better at staying quiet unless there’s a legit radar detection. So much better than the 480i and well worth the peace of mind.Seems like i get advanced notice from radar signals to let me adjust my speed in time.Wish the connection for power was not the barrel plug style, but it makes it easy to wire up.Mounts well to the magnetic windshield mount in my truck and to the RAM mounts base on my bike.Highly recommend.

Mostly positive review
This is my second radar detector the first one was very much a starter detector. there are a few differences. The positives…1. I just like the looks of it better2. I like how it lets you know the strength of the signal visually and auditorily3. It has the ability to connect via Bluetooth to your phone app to get information from other users4. a few small positives are I actually like the monochrome screen instead of distracting colors and it’s silly but I like how the line goes back and forth as it’s scanning and you have the option to show your battery voltage.Negatives are1. the biggest is so many false negatives around town more than the cheaper unit. just a ton especially if you have the app open and you’re connecting to what other people are reporting . it’s just ridiculous. so I don’t even see the use of using the app around town at all.2. is that it works very good on the open road but so did my much cheaper previous beginner model. But in the end I do like how this one notifies you with words, volume, readout of low med or high. I do like how you can also get firmware updates that may possibly help it function better in the future. and it just looks nicer so I am not disappointed I just need some more time with it to see if I can understand it better and get it to work for me how I like it.

Decent, but not great
I’ve used this detector for about two weeks, it’s given me a LOT of false alerts, but when there’s an actual speed trap it does a very good job of making that clear. Pay attention to the signal strength level, if it’s above 3 in the Ka or X band it’s typically worth slowing down for. However, if I were to be getting a first detector I’d wait until I could afford a different model, this one is simply all over the place. The manual states there are no X band false alerts, but I’ve received several in my time using it, likely due to newer collision avoidance features that use LIDAR on vehicles. This is a good detector if you’re like me and simply interested in what other vehicles are putting out, but if you’re looking for maximum accuracy, pay a little more money.
