Excellent Kit for the price.
Excellent Kit for the price. Comes with everything you’d need, and some. All of the wiring seems high enough quality for 98% of setups. Everything feels made well, and while I didn’t measure to verify actual cable thickness, it seems fine so far. This is powering my Massive Audio Kilo124 with no issues.

KIT2 8GA, Improved from years past
Ive ordered the KIT2 8GA kit from boss a few years ago and since then it has improved quite a bit. The kit now includes what is labeled as OFC Speaker wire (16ga), and OFC RCA, two things that were both not labeled as OFC in years past. Unfortunately the power and ground cables are not labeled as OFC as well, however they appear to be true or very close to true 8GA unlike the last kit i ordered where the sheath was about the size you would expect but the conductor inside was undersized.Although the speaker wire and RCA’s are labled as Oxygen Free Copper, they do not specify what grade, and the box does not mention OFC anywhere, so that is a mystery. My guess its that its a lower grade Partial-OFC that you would expect to see in a kit a bit higher up in the price range. Shame that power and ground are not also OFC but what can you ask for at such a cheap price.I was also pleased to see that the addition of 20 zip ties, as well as 3 grommets, 3 self tapping screws, 3 differently sized red ring terminals for the power cable, 4 small spade terminals with separate insulators for the speaker wire, 2 larger spade terminals with separate insulators for the ground cable, were all included as well, almost all of which were not included in the old KIT2.The fuse is even improved as it is now an ANL style GLASS fuse. while not ideal, it is a step up from the filament style glass fuse. The fuse assembly has two grommets on either end to seal the wire inside the fuse holder, and the two gold plated inserts that hold the fuse itself also have O-Rings for further protection. The holder is such that you do not have to disconnect the wires from the pieces that hold the fuse in order to remove it, simply unscrew the end-caps and pull the wire away.Another nice addition that was not in the old KIT2 is 6ft of wire loom to tidy up and protect the power cable inside the engine bay.In the end this is obviously not a high end installation kit, but for someone on a budget who doesnt care about having everything Oxygen-Free, its great for the price and includes everything you need for a standard 8GA installation!

A really good kit for your money
The wires and fuse holders are legit. I don’t have spare 8 ga. wire on hand to compare it to, but I’ve done more than a couple amp installs. At no point during the install did I say “Hmmm… this isn’t 8ga wire!” cause if it isn’t it’s ridiculously close to it. And they give you plenty of said wire. And a good quality fuse and holder. Also included are speaker wire, RCA signal wire, and remote power on wire. I thought the remote was very thin, but I can understand why you would cut a corner there. It’s not like it is coming under load, or doing anything strenuous. And the kit comes with chafing gear(plastic tube / case that slip around a wire to keep it from wearing out) for the power (or ground I suppose). The only thing I could look for complaints on are that the connectors (o rings, and butt connectors) are a little lame. But you should be having plenty of these on hand anyways. Or solder and heat shrink. Honestly, for your money you won’t find a better kit. I will definitely buy this again. Honestly though guys if you want the best kit with double shielded wire, and speaker wire that is double insulated and 12 ga. then get that. Cause you probably won’t be happy if you settle for anything less. And this is not that. But if you want to wire your amp and speakers with a good kit and get the best bang for your buck, this is for you. And I’ve been down both roads, their is not a big difference. Please save your money and get better equipment.

16 gauge speaker wire with 8 gauge power?
The kit doesn’t make much sense to be honest. 8 gauge power connect, but comes with only 16 AWG wire?I’d much rather have a shorter RCA cable than this speaker wire. If you are using 8AWG power wire you should be using something like 14/12. The split loom is absolutely useless and unusable. Its so thin that you will destroy its shape just trying to put wire in it. Don’t know why they even bothered with it….I guess it makes the kit look like it has a bunch of stuff, but too bad its garbage. It will literally just go into your trash can.

Has everything but would not use for high watt amps or large subs
There is a review that speaks to not using for systems over 800W and I would agree. The speaker wire is really small and i have 1200W with 10″ subs. I changed for larger wire. I’d buy again if I was just doing mids and highs but not for larger subs.

In all, It’s a great amp kit
This comes with everything you need, including a LOT of remote wire, which is good, you will still have some left after running the remote from your head unit. The only thing you need to worry about is how you’re going to put a hole through your firewall, that’s literally the most difficult part. Other than that finding a good ground is easy, I just wish the ground wire could be a tiny bit longer, but I understand why it is not. The amp powers my subs well, and boy can they get loud, I’m sure there’s better out there, but if you want something to hook up to and power your subs with minimal research and complications, this one is a great choice.

Order 1 size up from what the box says. It’s still a deal.
Overall a good deal, but you definitely need to order a size up in order to get the actual gauge you need. I think they may getting away with calling it an 8 gauge kit because the ring terminals and fuse holder included are for 8 gauge wire. The ground wire is not too short. For those that are new to how electricity works in a car, you are supposed to ground to the chassis, not run it all the way to the battery. Almost every other electronic device in your car is grounded the same way. Even the engine grounds to the chassis. The bad: I ordered the 8 Gauge and, as others have said, the actual wire is much smaller than 8 gauge. I used 10 Gauge strippers on it and didn’t nick a single strand of wire. It also matched the size of some 10 Gauge I had left over from a previous install. The speaker wire that comes with this kit is also under sized with extra insulation. It’s closer to the size of wire I would expect in a cheap boombox. The ring terminals and Fuse holder are for 8 gauge wire so you will have to strip double the length and fold it over to make it fill the hole and get a good crimp (not the best choice but it’s better than not folding and getting a loose crimp which is dangerous) or buy some 10 Ga ring hardware. Also, the included fuse looks like it would be way oversized for an application that would use 10Ga power wire. I’d advise getting a proper sized fuse so it will burn out instead of blowing out your amp or starting a fire if anything goes wrong. The Good: This is still a pretty good deal for a long piece of 10 Ga and an RCA cable. Since they’re passing 10 Ga wire off as 8 Ga, they put a super thick insulation on this. It will be much less susceptible to shorting out due to rubbing while being pulled through holes and under panels during install and wear less over time from rubbing on the edge of something due to normal vibrations. The kit also includes rubber grommets so, if you prefer to drill a hole in your firewall instead of cutting into the rubber around an existing cable pass-through, you will not have to worry about the metal edge rubbing through the insulation. I can’t really attest to the quality of the RCA cables. I hooked them up and they work. My subs are in too large of a box right now so they are boomy and the sound quality sucks so the RCA cables don’t make a difference. After I put them in a box with the right airspace I will find out.Overall it’s a decent kit. Just make sure you order a size up and make sure you get a properly sized fuse. Don’t expect the guys at Wal-Mart to know what they’re talking about. Research it or go to an audio shop and ask.

Contain Everything you need for your audio project
The use of 8 gauge wiring ensures sufficient power delivery to your amplifier, suitable for many car audio setups. However, for more power-hungry systems, users may need to opt for a thicker gauge wiring kit.

Straight forward
My install was simple radio and speaker upgrade with a small amp. It facilitated the install. Simply use the right sizes for your required install. If you don’t know what you are doing in some cases this kit wont be adequate. Its a good kit at a good value with good, not top of the line equipment.

Solid kit, prep for fuse backup tho
Solid kit that has everything you’ll need to hook up amp to oem radio. This kit has worked great for 10 months but I just ran into my first problem. Turned on car and no sound out of the radio. Closer inspection revealed that the amp had no power so I took a look at the fuse near the battery in the hood and one cap of the fuse had detached. Fortunately, it was a $2.50 fix from AutoZone who had the same 60 amp fuse in stock. Overall good kit with everything I needed to hook up my amp. Just FYI, that if you lose power to the amp suddenly to first unscrew the caps of the fuse holder to see if the fuse is still in tact. The metal bar inside was in perfect condition yet fuse was busted. I have no idea how long these fuses are supposed to last, but would be a good idea to pick up some inexpensive $2.50 backups for the glove box just in case this happens to you.

Good Kit but Not 4 Gauge
I was a little leary buying this kit after reading all of the reviews. Many commented on the wire size. It is true that the wire size is significantly smaller than #4 awg. The wire size is exactly #8 awg which has about 1/2 the current carrying capacity of #4 awg. However, I only needed #8 awg so it is okay for my installation. If I hadn’t read the reviews first then I would have ordered the #8 kit and been very disappointed. The wire itself (besides from being undersized) appears to be good copper, braided wire. It has good insulation and is very flexible. The ground wire is also #8 and basically the same as the power wire but colored black instead of red. It is only 3 feet long but this is adequate as it only needs to be bolted to the vehicle frame close to the amplifier. The wiring terminals are a little light. I recommend getting better terminals at Auto Zone or somewhere else. The amplifier turn-on wire is adequately sized. The RCA cables appear to the good as well. I didn’t have any problem with the RCA terminals as some others had noted. The lengh of the wires were adequate for my installation (1990 Chevy Truck, standard cab). The fuse holder was a decent quality fuse holder but the terminals were designed for #4 awg not the #8 awg wire that came with the kit. I found a fuse holder at Radio Shack exactly like it (paid $15 for fuse; $22 for wiring kit) but it came with inserts to allow it to be used for both #8 and #4 awg. The supplied fuse was 60 amp which is a little too big for #8 awg. I bought a package of two 40 amp fuses for $4.29 at Auto Zone. I will use the other fuse hoder and 60 a fuse somewhere else or sell on Craig’s List. Out of all the kit, I used the following: power wire, ground wire, amplifier turn on wire, the RCA cables, a grommet, and some ty-raps. All in all, still a better deal at $22 than paying $50 plus somewhere else.

I bought a Pioneer 12in Sub with built in amp (love it). This kit had everything I needed with plenty of length. The inline fuse holder was my only issue. It’s a FAT glass fuse and I couldn’t find one smaller than 40amps. My amp only uses a 25amp fuse.

Not as advertised – amazon.com should consider removing this due to “false advertising”. Fuse holder is junk
Adding to my original review since I have had this for awhile now. I think this is a good thing for people to get what they need to get started–however, if you like to “do things right the first time,” then spend your money elsewhere. Otherwise you will waste much time doing it over again.1: Fuse holder looks nice, appears robust, but is junk. I have spent many times taking it apart and applying dielectric grease to the contacts in an effort to keep the connection. Worked for awhile, then would need to do this every few months. Now it has to be done around once a month lately. Keep in mind this is not rattling around or tied to some wires loosely. I have the fuse holder mounted securely to my firewall within about a foot of my battery terminal, also it is mounted on a square of rubber (for vibration isolation). I made every effort to help keep a secure connection and yet this did not help even in the first week of use–I would lose connection. Should have returned under warranty at that point but it was my mistake assuming it was a freak occurrence. Don’t waste your time making the same mistake as me. Last time I pulled this apart, I popped the hood to find the fuse holder now looks like the plastic is about to fall apart. I said to hell with the dielectric, and wrapped a piece of foil around the ends of the fuse to create a tighter connection. Will see how long this lasts but I count on eliminating this entire kit due to other reasons…2: the “8 AWG power and ground cables” are not “8 AWG.” AWG is a wiring standard. If Boss Audio cannot follow a STANDARD then they should not advertise their product as such. Their “8” gauge wiring, when stripped, measures about .100 inches which is nearly 10AWG. 8AWG is standardized as .128″ dia. This is AWG STANDARD. You cannot just label a wire as something else and simply sell it as something else. This is blatant false advertising and amazon.com should investigate this matter (also now seeing that I am not the first to complain about this on amazon.com or other sites). amazon.com should consider removing this product from their site as it is FALSELY ADVERTISED.It is also worthy of mention that partsexpress.com now lists this exact same kit (p/n KIT-2) as a “12 AWG Amplifier Installation Kit.” Hmmm……3: the “16AWG” speaker wire leaves something to be desired. FALSE ADVERTISING just as gripe #2. 16AWG (according to the STANDARD is .0508″ dia. Their wire looked to be about 20AWG but upon measurement I found it was closer to 18AWG. Still, it is undersized. Just because you have a larger shield/insulation diameter does not matter. AWG standard applies to the size of the COPPER. These wires do not meet AWG STANDARD for 16 AWG COPPER. Plain and simple. This wire also came loose from the speaker terminals because it is too thin and weak. I added a strain relief (eye loop) and screwed it to the side of the box. I should mention, regardless of the gauge of wire, this is something that you should probably do regardless to help prevent the wire from breaking like this.4: the 18AWG trigger is the same. Sizes out to about 20AWG and also has thin insulation. Also false advertising. The split loom is quite possibly the cheapest, thinnest, most ridiculous excuse of split loom I have ever seen. I didn’t waste any time installing some other stuff instead.RCA cables – I don’t know about these, because I didn’t hack into them to see if they were made in the same “Ching Wah Foon” factory that mis-printed the 18gauge speaker wire as 16AWGTerminals are OKOverall impression after 2.5 years of ownership (and only 2 years installed since it took 6mo.s to get around to the install):DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY AND TIME – you will spend time tracing problems with the damned cheap fuse holderSPEND A FEW BUCKS MORE AND BUY THE COMPONENTS INDIVIDUALLY – it may take more time to source them but as stated above you will save time with better quality productsOriginal review after a few months of use:Helped me, as I’m a self-proclaimed rookie at car audio installations. The instructions were generic yet specific and applied to my installation. I used split loom to protect wire and routed the wire wisely (use common sense, avoid pinch points, etc.).One issue is the amp would keep shutting off. Sometimes it would turn back on after a few days or sometimes miles if I kept driving. I would check all connections and find that by wiggling/knocking the fuse holder mounted on the firewall by battery, amp would turn on. Sometimes I had to unscrew the end cap and remove the fuse, put it back in, and it would for for awhile again. Weird. Started having to do this anywhere from twice a month to twice a week.On a chance I used dielectric grease and coated the contact ends of the fuse with it (apparently the connection had loosened up). Now I’ve had several months of trouble-free power to the amp. I would recommend doing this the FIRST time around (maybe they should include a small pouch with the kit).UPDATED AGAIN: I gave up fooling around with this POS and bought
Blue Sea Systems AMI/MIDI Safety Fuse Block
AND
Blue Sea Systems 60A AMI/MIDI Fuse
. Problem solved 110%.

Decent for the price except for the RCA cables.
You get what you pay for. Remote wire is good. Power wire does the job. Ground wire does the job. The RCA wires though? I plugged them in and both posts broke off in the socket. One was easy to get out. The other I had to attempt to drill out and it ended up pushing through the socket and I had to work on the amp for over an hour to get everything inside bent back. I recommend the kit mostly, but do NOT use the RCA cable. The hardware is decent enough but like other reviewers have said, make sure you have good crimpers.

When you get this kit get a new fuse immediately I would like some money back for the headache this pos fuse created. It didn’t blow like a normal fuse it just lost connection in the fuse I had to do a test with a fluke to figure it out. So I pushed on the fuse to see if it desoldered from one side and yup it did. I push on it and get 10v I let go and it gets 1v so it is trash not worth $34 it wasted alot of time and no this isn’t user error for i have been doing electrical work for a very long time. So pissed off right now but everything else seems OK with the kit. I just ordered new fuses but this kit needs BETTER FUSES DAMN IT.

I have had it for a few weeks now installed and everything worked great hut its a cheap rca cable to say the least. Not 8 gauge
This kit looks nice and is comprehensive, but my concern is it is advertised as 8 gauge wire and it really isn’t close to being 8 gauge. It is smaller than 10 and closer to 12 gauge. I have some true 8 gauge crimp rings to connect it to the battery and the wire was extremely loose, I could put 2 wires in the one connector. I then got a true #8 awg and the difference was extremely obvious. I’m going to use everything else in the kit but source the main power wire from somewhere else

Worked well to connect my Boss Ausio head unit to a Kicker 360 watt RMS amp
I purchased this 8 gauge amp install kit for a Kicker amp running from a Boss Audio head unit in my 07 Dodge Ram truck with the amp mounted under the driver seat. I used the amp for a 4 channel set-up (360 watt RMS) to power four Kicker door speakers; I do not have a separate sub-woofer although the kit provides RCA leads for a sub-woofer and regular speaker wire which you cut to length and add the provided terminal ends for the remaining speakers. In my install I ended up not using any of the hardware provided for the sub-woofer and bought separate RCA leads for the 4 speaker connections between the head unit and the amp. I did use the speaker wire provided in the kit for the amp output back to the vehicle factory wiring harness which then routes to the door speakers. It was my choice to wire it that way but the unused subwoofer wiring and the lack of RCA leads for the 4 door speakers it the reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, but it is still a good value.

8AWG?? Maybe not…
This worked for me, however, I am suspicious if the power cable is really 8AWG, it is quite thin. The physical wire may be 8awg thickness, but the actual conductor is less for sure.Nonetheless, it still worked for me, ground cable could be a little bit longer.Giving 3 stars just because the conductor is quite thin and believe this is misrepresentation.

Does the trick
Great kit and has everything you need, and then some. They make sure to give you plenty of options for almost any install. One thing I really would like to see included on all of these kits would be ferrules for the power, ground, and remote wires… If you don’t have ferrules on hand, either buy some or tin the ends of the cables with solder, rather than just pinching the bare wire with the set screw on the amp. Or, cut the ring off of a ring terminal and crimp the barrel onto the wire. Almost anything will give a better connection than just stuffing the twisted wire into the socket and tightening the set screw.

It works
I know, it’s made in China and may not actually be 8 gauge. One other reviewer said he’s installed ‘hundreds’ of system and was just ‘disgusted’ with this product. Well, if you’ve installed ‘hundreds’, then go to your trusted supplier and get what you really need to install that 1000 watt amp and half a dozen 12 inch subs that you use to bug the crap out of everybody going down the road having to listen to your idiotic music. For me, I got a 350 watt Amp and Sub combo because I wanted to get some extra kick from my new speakers. The install kit was just what I needed. It was an absolute bear to run all the wires , but that’s because I was kind of picky where they should go, so that’s on me. Otherwise, everything was there to do the job right. Took me about 4 hours to do it all, but that was because I took my time so I wouldn’t screw it up. They even had self tapping screws to mount that huge fuse (haven’t seen one that big in 30 years). I’m only an occasional installer of my own equipment, but I haven’t put in an amp and sub for over 15 years. This kit, at around $21, did the job for me.

Power and ground cable sheds copper wires in pieces
The copper wires used for power cable (and ground cable) are so delicate that it breaks into pieces. I would have returned this kit but had already installed the cable from battery to trunk which is a hard job in DIY project. I recommend not to buy this product. Other cables were good but the quality of the power cable is the most important. I lost one copper screw while installing the fuse, so had to order extra fuse from Amazon. I wish if the kit carries an extra screw.

Works but barely
This product definitely meets the reputation of boss amongst the car audio community and not in a good way. It will get you going but that’s about the end of anything good I can say about it.If starting out in this hobby. Please do not use this kit to power any amplifier over 800 watts RMS at the most. If using this for your mids and highs on a midrange or lower budget 400watt 2 channel amplifier this might be about perfect for that. The power and ground wire provided is about 80% rubber insulation and 20% actual wire. Also note that this is CCA and low quality CCA at that. Not OFC or any other type of pure stranded copper. The wire is such low quality that you can literally just pull it apart with minimal effort.I cannot comment or review the quality of the rca cables because I do not know enough about them to give a reliable review.Lastly for those starting off into the hobby as I imagine that you would be If you’re viewing this product power is EVERYTHING in a system. You have to have it to make it. I know money is tight to a lot of people including myself but wire should not be where you make cuts in your budget and I learned this from trial and error through actual experience as well as research. If you are running an amplifier that actually puts out over 1,000 watts rms and calls for 4 awg you need to invest in quality ofc wire such as nvx. If possible get an adapter and run 2 runs of it power and ground. You need to look up the “big 3” and do that. This is all very very important. You do not want your power to bottleneck your system. It will run on crappy wire but will significantly reduce output and sound quality. Trust me. I learned the hard way

Everything a DIYer would need for an amp install
A few years ago I paid a stereo shop to install an amp and subwoofer in an SUV I owned (at the time, I knew very little about these things). Had to remove it because because it was constantly running my battery down. Turns out they didn’t hook up an amp turn on. Fast forward a few years…decided I wanted more bass in my current car and didn’t really want to use another shop (combination of lack of trust and a desire to not spend money on something I can probably do myself. This kit comes with everything I needed to do the job using high- or low-level inputs. Was only dealing with a powered sub that called for 8 gauge power and ground and, other than reinstalling the under hood grommet, the process went smoothly. 8 gauge was easy to cut and crimp w/o special tools. The cables were plenty long for my car although the RCAs were longer than I needed so I just wound up the extra and stowed it under the cargo floor. Went to Best Buy and saw a similar kit for more than double the price.

Mostly Great
I have used several of these kits for amp/sub installs on personal vehicles. Overall the kit is of good quality and a great value for the price. My only complaint is the most recent kit I received, the connectors did not seem of the same quality as I remember in previous units. The ring terminals were too large for the included power wire, making it difficult to get a solid crimped connection. I simply used the proper sized ring terminals I had on hand, but not everyone will have these readily available.

Made My Car Audio Upgrade a Breeze
I recently purchased the BOSS Audio Systems KIT2 8 Gauge Amp Installation Wiring Kit for upgrading the sound system in my car, and it has been an absolute delight to work with. This kit proved to be exactly what I needed for a seamless and efficient installation process. The quality of the cables in this kit is impressive. They are thick, durable, and well-insulated, which is crucial for any car audio setup. The robustness of these cables ensures minimal signal interference and maximum sound quality. I was particularly pleased with the flexibility of the cables, which made routing them through tight spaces in my car a lot easier than I anticipated. The kit came with everything required for a standard amp installation, including power and ground cables, a fuse holder, and an RCA interconnect. The completeness of this kit made the installation straightforward, saving me the hassle of purchasing additional components.During the installation, I noticed that the connectors and terminals are of good quality too. They provided a secure and solid connection, which is vital for the safety and longevity of any car audio system.Since installing my new sound system using this kit, the performance has been stellar. The sound is clear, with no noticeable distortion or electrical noise, which speaks to the quality of the materials used in this kit.
